Can A Person Live Without A Heart?

According to a foreign news agency, an amazing incident took place in the US state of Michigan where a resident Stan Larkin lived without a heart for 555 days while participating in sports activities with friends.

At 25, Stan Larkin was diagnosed with familial cardiomyopathy.

It is a heart disease in which the affected person's heart suddenly stops completely at any time and no matter how healthy you are; you die.

Stan Larkin later needed a transplant and had to stay in the hospital permanently so that doctors could monitor him continuously.

However, doctors at the University of Michigan placed an artificial heart on his back.

The artificial heart kept beating for about two years, 555 days, and then in 2016 he underwent a heart transplant and is still alive.

What Is The Purpose Of Eyelashes And Eyebrows?

Why Are Eyelashes And Eyebrows Important

Scientists have long struggled to find an answer to the question of what is the use of eyelashes and eyebrows. Who knew that the answer would be so simple and that both protect the eyes.

Dr. Stephanie Marionikos, a spokeswoman for the American Academy of Optometry, said: "The purpose of these two is to provide extra protection to the pupils of the eye from any kind of liquid or water, any solid, dust, insects or others."

Eyebrows protect everything from the eyes flowing down the face to the various substances coming down the face such as sweat, hair's dryness, and rain.

These things get stuck in the eyebrows, absorb fluid or turn them away from the eyes.

Similarly, eyebrows also play an important role in facial expressions and other expressions of specific emotions.

According to a 2018 British study, as the human face got smaller and spotted through evolutionary stages, it became a canvas in which eyebrows could express a variety of emotions.

Researcher Paul O'Higgins said: "We've adopted a variety of emotions instead of domination or aggression. As the faces got smaller, the forehead got bigger. The facial expressions moved the eyebrows up and down and expressed all our subtle emotions through them.

Similarly, eyelashes provide the same protection to the eyes, but their method is different.

According to Dr. Stephanie, the eyelashes are almost like a mustache on the face which is long and sensitive. When someone touches them, the blindfold reacts as a defense mechanism. Without eyelashes, this reaction takes longer to activate.

He said that if there were no eyelashes, the mechanism would not be activated unless you see something coming into the eye, which increases the risk of injury. The eyelashes, on the other hand, are sensitive to the fact that they activate the mechanism to provide protection at lightning speed.

The eyelashes also hold fluid, dirt, and other objects and help keep eye moisture.
