By the way, hello is a traditional English greeting word. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, Hello was first used in a published text in 1827, and at that time it was not used in a recognizable sense but was used by people to focus or express surprise. Hello did not have the status of hi until the advent of the telephone, and would not have been there having it not been for the well-known inventor Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison encouraged people to say hello in response to a telephone call urging people to start talking on the phone with hello and in the opinion of Alexander Graham Bell, his rival at the time and inventor of the telephone. ahoy, it's a better word for this purpose. Alexander Graham Bell used the same word on the phone all his life. At the same insistence of Thomas Edison, most of the telephone dictionaries published at that time also suggested saying hello when picking up the phone and this is what made it popular and it left Ahoy behind.
